Major Community Grants Launch "Make Music Resonate" Campaign for Whitefish Schools

TEACHER SHOUTOUT! ✨📚

🎶 BIG NEWS for our music programs! 🎶
Our team at the Whitefish Education Foundation felt the love at the Whitefish Community Foundation Community Grant Awards Celebration last night.  We had applied for a Community Grant, hoping to be awarded up to the maximum grant amount of $10,000.  Boy, were we wrong!  We were graced with the following awards:
  • $15,000 WCF Community Grant
  • $5,000 Russ and Mary Jane Street Community Service Award
  • $25,000 Tom Quinn Memorial Award
All funds raised will go toward our newly launched Make Music Resonate Campaign, which aims to replace aging instruments in the band and orchestra programs at WMS and WHS. We are currently in the “quiet phase” of fundraising, with the public phase likely to take place later this year.  More information to come, but if you would like to learn more please reach out to Jesse at wefdirector@whitefishschools.org.
Thank you to the incredible team and generous donors at the Whitefish Community Foundation and the Street and Quinn families.  We are touched that our student musicians will benefit from your lasting gifts.
WEF Grant Fund - Annie Gustafson

Dear Whitefish Education Foundation,

A HUGE thank you for the funding to purchase these supplies!  It has helped make my classroom more engaging, and more fun for the students.  First, in my effort to give students options other than their chromebook when they have a free moment, I was able to purchase 7 logic puzzles and 2 giant coloring posters.  This has been a game changer for me because those students that finish assignments early and have an extra 10 minutes to spare have really enjoyed the logic puzzles over being on their chromebook.  Great thing about these puzzles-(Puzzle a Day), is that everyday is a new puzzle, so it doesn’t get old.  The giant coloring poster has also been a place for students that have an extra 10 minutes.  It has been really refreshing to see students talking with each other instead of glued to screens.  These are items that I have wanted to purchase for years, so thank you for making it happen!

Second, I was able to purchase 8 Vernier Weather Stations.  This has gotten students outside collecting data first-hand to learn about all these different variables, and to learn more about weather and climate.  They are collecting data for the NASA GLOBE program and I only anticipate this unit growing in depth.  I forgot to purchase tripods to connect to the weather stations, but two students offered to build wooden handles for them, which turned out great- I thought this was really cool!

With much gratitude,

Annie Gustafson | Science Teacher WHS
